ON AVERAGE THERE ARE 300 FAIL POINTS ON A HOME

The most important day for a roof
is installation day.

Properly setting up flashings before nailing down shingles ensures that fail points are covered. Backed by The Bolt Home Flashing System helps contractors meet code and protect key roof components.

WATER IS THE ENEMY OF YOUR HOME

PERIMETER EDGE FLASHING

PERIMETER EDGE FLASHING

Watch the Video

CODE SUMMARY:

Drip edges must be installed at eaves and rake edges of shingle roofs, overlapping adjacent segments by at least 2 inches. They should extend 1/4 inch below the roof sheathing and 2 inches onto the roof deck, fastened at intervals not exceeding 12 inches. Underlayment should be placed over the drip edge at eaves and under it at rake edges.

PREVENTS

WOOD ROT

Water that is not channeled away from the home causes structural damage to the home.

PREVENTS

BUG INFESTATION

Cover the gap to make sure bugs and critters are not finding their way into the home.

PREVENTS

FLARE-OUT

Infinity and TruFit Drip Edge products provide effortless installs and ensure consistent seams and a cleaner look.

ROOF-TO-WALL FLASHING

ROOF-TO-WALL FLASHING

CODE SUMMARY:

Flashings must be installed as per the shingle manufacturer’s instructions. Base flashings should use corrosion-resistant metal (minimum 0.019 inches thick) or mineral surface roll roofing (minimum 77 lbs/100 sq. ft.). Cap flashings must be made of corrosion-resistant metal with a minimum thickness of 0.019 inches.

PROTECTS

THE SIDEWALL

Water that gets behind the siding will rot out the walls and create leaks into the home.

PROTECTS

THE ROOF DECK

Water that makes its way under the shingles will rot out the shingles and void any warranty in place.

PROMOTES

AIRFLOW WITH
BEADED WATER LOCKS

Creates airflow moving water away from the roof and away from the home.

VALLEY FLASHING

VALLEY FLASHING

CODE SUMMARY:

Valley linings must be installed according to the manufacturer’s instructions. For open valleys with exposed metal lining, the lining should be at least 24 inches (610 mm) wide and made of a corrosion-resistant material.

PROTECTS

AGAINST GRANULE LOSS

Helps to prevent granule loss by directing water runoff away from roof seams, reducing erosion in vulnerable areas.

PROTECTS

AGAINST DEBRIS BUILD-UP

Channels water away from roof valleys to minimize debris buildup that can cause blockages and long-term damage.

PROTECTS

AGAINST ICE DAMMING

Ensures proper water flow, reducing the chances of water freezing and backing up under the roof.

UNDERLAYMENT

UNDERLAYMENT

CODE SUMMARY:

Underlayment should be installed per the manufacturer’s instructions, starting horizontally at the eave with at least 2-inch overlaps for successive sheets and 4-inch overlaps at end laps.

LEAK BARRIER

A self-sticking membrane that helps protect against leaks caused by wind-driven rain and damaging ice dams.

SYNTHETIC OR FELT UNDERLAYMENT

An underlayment that provides a secondary layer of wind-driven rain protection between the shingles and roof deck.

SHINGLE STARTER

A starter layer of shingles that provide a sealant to the first row of shingles preventing blow offs and wind-driven rain.

VENTILATION

VENTILATION

CODE SUMMARY:

Typical one-foot soffit overhangs should have at least an 11 NFA, so when used on both sides of the home, they will have a combined NFA of 22 to draw the airflow needed to work with a ridge vent system.

LOWER

ENERGY COSTS

Sufficient airflow reduces the strain on heating and cooling systems to maintain consistent indoor temperatures.

PROTECTS

AGAINST DAMAGE

Proper ventilation helps prevent mold, structural damage and keep the integrity of your insulation.
